Synopsis:
"Jarum Halus" is a story about the complexity and fragility of relationships, and how "little sins" can easily snowball into great tragedy.
Daniel Oh (CHRISTIEN NEW) has risen from his troubled childhood to chart his own destiny as one of the fast-rising young corporate stars at Ecotech, where he works together with his best friend Iskandar (RAZIF HASHIM) for Datuk Kalel (DATO RAHIM RAZALI).
However, Daniel's success, as well as what he perceives as Kalel's apparent favouritism towards Daniel in the workplace, builds resentment within Iskandar.
When Daniel elopes with another Malay colleague's daughter Mona (JULIANA IBRAHIM), Iskandar hatches a plot to discredit Daniel. He uses the headstrong and trusting Mona, gullible fellow employee Michael (JUSTIN CHAN), a brash secret admirer of Mona's named Rahim (MEGAT SHARIZAL) and even his own distanced wife Emilia (FARAH PUTRI) as pawns in what appears to start out as a spiteful game. But Iskandar's jealous scheming snowballs to disproportionate levels, finally climaxing in tragic
"Jarum Halus" is the directorial debut of talented young Malaysian filmmaker MARK TAN. It is an adaptation of William Shakespeare's classic play "Othello", set in modern-day Kuala Lumpur and using a mix of Malaysian English and Malay (with English subtitles).

ONN SAN's early works include the musical Green Tea (2002, 2003), Storm in a Teacup (2005) and Drunk Before Dawn (2004, 2006). In 2007, San scored his first feature-independent film, Jarum Halus, an adaptation of William Shakespeare's Othello, directed by local director, Mark Tan, which won several awards and was premiered at the Cineasia, Germany, 2007. San has also worked on several TV & radio commercials for brands such as Guinness, Levi's Jeans, Xando, Aggrenox and Tiffany & Co.
In April 2010, Onn San received his MFA at the NYU Graduate Musical Theater Writing Program, TISCH School of Performing Arts, New York and was awarded with the Dean's Full Scholarship Award. In his first year, he wrote a 20-minute musical called The Meatball with coursemate, lyricist & book writer, Sean Patterson, which was later chosen by The Lee Strasberg Institute to be staged at the Marilyn Monroe Theater, New York. A few months after, The Meatball was performed again at The Robert & Arlene Kogod Theater, Maryland as part of Ng Yee Von's doctorate program recital.
Among his other works include writting orchestrations for an off-Broadway production, King David The Musical, written by Ellen & David M. Sanborn. The production received raving reviews from the public and critics alike. Backstage, NY says (Onn San's orchestrations are) "Seductively lilting..." and The New York Times says (it is), "Overflowing with lush orchestrations". Recently, San worked on the orchestrations for Andrew Lloyd Webber's Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, which opened at The Miracle Theater, Tennessee staring Amarican Idol finalist, Melinda Doolittle.
